]]> As you may know, Dr. Silverman, FAAOS, served on the AAOS Now Editorial board from 2021-23. AAOS Now is the member news magazine for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). This position enabled him to meet and connect with other AAOS members who are always working to further our understanding of the best ways to help patients. In 2023, Dr. Silverman was fortunate enough to be able to sit down with one of those minds and talk about a topic of great interest as a foot and ankle surgeon.

Dr. Silverman was given the opportunity to host an AAOS Now interview with Nour Nassour, MD, about the results of a study she worked on. Dr. Nassour and her team conducted a study to see if machine learning and AI technology could help identify a person’s predictive risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE) after an ankle fracture. VTE is a potentially deadly blood clot issue that can develop after injury or surgery.

Dr. Silverman sat down with Dr. Nassour to learn more about the study and if artificial intelligence could help save lives by predicting who is at an elevated risk for venous thromboembolism after an ankle injury. You can check out the 20-minute video by clicking this link or the picture below!
