The 19th annual David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles event was a huge success! We had such an amazing time talking to so many wonderful people, and what a memorable event it was.
The 2025 event was able to provide foot exams, socks and Red Wing Shoes to 345 attendees. Others were able to get free flu vaccines and address other healthcare needs, and lawyers were on site to provide legal advice and assistance to anyone who had questions or concerns about legal issues.

Although Dr. Silverman no longer operates his private practice in Minnesota, he still feels very connected to the community in the Twin Cities, which is why he wanted to ensure the wonderful event continued. Dr. Silverman provided the financial support for the event, while so many other amazing people, groups and businesses donated their time and supplies to ensure the event was a success. We specifically want to thank Catholic Charities of the Twin Cities and Red Wing Shoes for their support, but we know that the event wouldn’t be what is has become without the help of the physicians, surgeons, nurses, residents and volunteers who ensure it goes off without a hitch.
Dr. Silverman says he knows that shoes can be vital equipment for individuals facing homelessness and other challenges, especially as the temperatures drop.
“People don’t realize how important your feet are until you’re down one and in trouble,” Silverman said. “When you’re living on the edge, like those who are less fortunate and those who are dealing with homelessness, your feet are important to get you places where you can get safe.”
One attendee mentioned that the new shoes will allow him to take the metro bus, which previously had barred him from riding without footwear. Another member said the safety shoes he received will allow him to apply for work.
The annual event is named for David Lewis, an orthotist, friend, and colleague. If you’re not familiar with David, he was an orthotist who dedicated his life to helping people get back on their feet. He was a well-known presence at “Our Hearts To Your Soles,” volunteering at the event with his wife and family for over a decade before his unexpected passing in 2019. It’s amazing that his legacy gets to live on through this event that he was a mainstay at every year.
Check out some photos of the event people, and once again thank you to everyone who made sure this weekend’s event was a rousing success. We plan to hold the event again in 2026, and we’ll work to share more information about that event as it approaches. Thank you one last time to everyone who helped with The David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles 2025 event!
